7-8 years ago me and my boyfriend built an ICE competition car. It was a 405 and was bad. We won loads of trophies in the competitons and competed at Wembley. The following year we put 8 10 inch Rockford subs, 6", 4" and tweeters in each door, a TV, a DVD player and a PS1 into it. It was even better. We competed that at the Max Power show at the NEC. I've lost interest now. Dumped the tw@ too. I would love a proper stereo system in my car because the sound of it is fantastic when you have the right gear set up properly. My standard Peugeot head unit isn't too bad. i dont' always turn it on though because there is so much sound you just cannot hear. The standard speakers can't reproduce it all. Maybe 1 day when the kids have grown up I will invest in a proper stereo system again. Also been to motorsport show. About 10 years ago now. Might even have been the first one at NEC. Very good even then. |

Proccy, in all honesty, if you can afford it you get get what you pay for. When we first started we had a Kenwood amp and were told they produced a tinny sound. As it was the best we'd ever heard we didn't take too much notice. Until we wired up the Rockford amps. WOW! We could honestly hear the difference. The sounds was much warmer. I would suggest your read up on the stuff before approaching anyone. As you say it is big business and some don't care what they sell you as long as you leave a few hundred quid lighter. A decent head unit is always a good place to start. Eventually ours was £500 alone. It was top of ther ange with a TV in it too. Obviously you don't have to spend that much at all but a decent make will be good. From what I remember McClaren were a good make. The same goes for speakers. They can only cope with reproducing certain sounds. The better the quality of make the better the sound. We had subs, 6", 4" and tweeters to get the fullr ange of sound. It really does make a difference. I wouldn't suggest you going that far but replacing the standard fitted speakers with a well made set will make a difference to the sound you hear. I am far from being an expert but I do have to laugh out loud when I hear some cars driving around full of rattles and vibration with the treble ear splittingly high!! lmao If you have the time buy one of the boy racer magazines. They've usually got some good info and will give you an idea of prices too. It can be done relatively cheap and you don't have to buy amplifiers at all. Just get an idea of what you want. When buying speakers, look at the RMS wattage not the output wattage. No idea hwat it means but the higher the RMS value the better. |

Here you go Proccy http://www.electronixwarehouse.com/educati...wer-ratings.htm also make sure who ever fits it for you is qualified and not asking you where he can leave his horse while he fits it ;) |

There are some serious cow boys out there fitting car stereos. Once you've had a quality system you will struggle to listen to standard equipment. |

I have seen a few bodge jobs K-BEK its cost them £££££'s to buy them, then they try and fit them themselves to save money. my advice would be go to a reputable dealer and get then to fit it as part of the deal. Worst one i was asked to sort out had more scotchlocks than halfords. not a soldered joint anywhere :o |

LOL When we fitted the 405, we did do it ourselves but the useless mommy's boy was a qualified auto electrician, we tooke verything out. Pannels, carpets, seats, the lot before running the wires in. He worked at Metro Cammel so it was all good stuff, fit for trains!! lol wink wink nudge nudge. That's probably why they went bust!! lol I actually enjoyed doing it although I took part out of necessity at first- date a nerd and never see him or join in. I'm sure I could still do a good job now. We made everything from sub boxes to door pods for 3 speakers. I was a whiz with the old vynil! lol |

£40/ hour is about right for the rob dogs they all are. Just think of the profits the company is making on fitting alone. |
